Background
I completed my 200 hr YTT earlier this year in Hatha yoga, at an ashram just outside of Mysuru.
For me yoga is a spiritual practice, with a physical component. I see this physical component as a way to honor my body, viewing asanas as almost prescriptive, using different asanas for different desired effects or functions. I continue to develop a relationship with each asana, noticing the subtle differences, both physical and mental, each time I practice them.
My yoga classes typically involve holding asanas for longer periods of time allowing the mind the opportunity to be fully present with the sensations of the body. Holding asanas also allows energies to be released from deep in the body's tissues, as well as thoughts and emotions to come up in the mind, which can then be surrendered to and released. My classes also include some form of Pranayama and Yoga Nidra, both of which are beautiful and honored practices.
I am a teacher, but I am also a student. Thank you for this opportunity to be both at once.
